Which course has better career prospects among part time MBA and PGDM from reputed institute?

Hi Ankit, Please remember MBA degree is offered by universities, whereas PGDM is offered by AICTE approved institutes. Both these course have almost the same course curriculum, so you may pursue any of these course. However, please remember while taking admission, your emphasis should be more on taking admission in good universities or institutes. You may consider some of the below mentioned points while selecting a institute or university to pursue MBA or PGDM program: - Accreditation of the institute. - Institute's infrastructure. - Teaching faculty. - Specialization offered. - Past placements records. - Tuition fees. - City preference. - Industry interface. In order to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program you need to be graduate in any field with atleast 50% marks in graduation, plus you need to take various management entrance test like CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, etc. However it would be always advisable to work for 2-3 years after completing your Graduation and then opt for a full time MBA or PGDM program, the advantage of this step would be that after working for few years you would know which specialization to opt in MBA that can further enhance your career prospects. And this is a plus point as you are working and you know in which field you need to do specialization. This work experience of yours would give you competitive advantage over other candidates with no work experience during MBA admission. Would like to add few more points in difference between MBA & PGDM. While there are huge similarities in the curriculum of both MBA and PGDM, there are finer points of difference. While MBA focuses more on theoretical aspects of management and is more exam-oriented, PGDM has a focus on building soft skills and is industry-oriented. It prepares you for the job market. Since an autonomous institute does not have to follow university standards, it is free to change its curriculum according to industry standards and change in business environment. Also a PGDM gives you an industry exposure. Whereas it will take time to change the curriculum for MBAs as it is affiliated with a university and it will essentially follow the university guidelines and changing this curriculum is a very slow process. However, you should remember that it is not important whether a student pursues PGDM or MBA. The institution where he is studying is of supreme importance and enhances their employability. If you pursue your management studies from a reputed college which is recognised and offers decent placements, then your chances of employment and going abroad get enhanced.
