Which course is better among Diploma and degree? What is the difference between them?

A degree course is usually 3 to 4 years long course conferred by a UGC-recognised university, after the completion of a course. An institute cannot confer a degree. A Diploma is a short-term course, lasting 1 or 2 years, and is not necessarily given by a university. It could be conducted by an institute or Polytechnic as well. Only a university can confer a degree. To pursue higher education, a degree from only a UGC approved university is accepted. An institute, a Polytechnic or even a university can offer a Diploma course. There is no need for the institute or the university to be UGC or AICTE approved. Typically, there is one subject that you major in, called the specialisation whereas other subjects are called electives. A Diploma is a specific academic award usually awarded for professional/vocational courses. A degree holder is preferred over a Diploma holder in the same field. The relative importance of a Diploma, when compared to a degree course is less.

Diploma programs provide education within your given field and get you into the work force sooner.

Hi Sail, Diploma is a short time course (usually 2 years) which train you to be capable to work in the industry as a freshman. You can either pursue a Diploma in Multimedia and animation or go for taking any affiliated training course (min 1 year, differs with institution) for the same. Common courses like this are not taught in the university as a degree (Some university may teach, you need to search). These type of common courses can be learnt by anybody and takes short time, so training centres and institutes teach the lesson. In many places these type of common courses are available as Diploma as well. However the question is - What is your interest? When you are choosing a career you should be thinking quite hard and take tough decisions. It is the fact that you should stuck in the same field throughout your days in the life until and unless you learn and be capable to grab the next topic you want to make a career with. Multimedia and animation enclose different fields. It includes video editing, photo editing, graphics, sounds, animations, effects and many more. If you want to pursue career in these fields and make difference then you move on with it. After finding your interest you can either go for Diploma or any training centres. All the courses can't be available in the both places. You must be careful while choosing the place to learn the course. Be careful if the field you have an interest is available there or not, compare the course duration and course structure, make sure the institute/training centre is well affiliated and recognised.
