Which course is better among MBA and distance PGDM? What difference does it make with regards to salary package?
I am a working graduate and can't afford to lose my job for a MBA degree, However I am planning to do my Distance PGDM from NMIMS.

There are few things which need to be consider before joining a course from any Institute:
1. Are you getting a PGD or MBA Degree? Although, they are considered equivalent but technically both are different and MBA have more value than any PGD.
2. Is your university recognized? UGC, DEB and AIU are basic recognition required.
3. What flexibility you are getting? App based learning, live interactive lectures and career advisory are basic facilities.
4. Placement support provided or not? Straight and forward saying, no university can guarantee your placement, as companies pay for skills not for degree you are holding. So, check w...more -
Hello Dimple,
The very basic difference between an MBA and PGDM is that MBA is a Masters 'Degree' while PGDM course will give you a 'Diploma' as your certificate. Institute may try their best to convince that MBA and PGDM are same or equivalent, but I firmly believe that our Indian government is not so foolish to give 2 separate names to a similar course.
Message is simple, PGDM and MBA are management courses but in one course you are getting a Diploma at the end after which you cannot go for PhD that means further studies will get affected.
Better go for MBA. -
Hi Dimple,
I hope you are doing well. Coming to your question, an MBA is always better than a distance PGDM since the amount of learning and the concepts you strengthen yourself in is much more in a classroom study. But, since the job is equally important to you, you can go ahead with distance MBA courses. Distance PGDM from NMIMS is not a great choice as far as I have read and heard about. You can maybe opt for SMU or Amity. These 2 universities will also give you placement assistance and the packages will be a little lesser than the ones you are offered on campus. Let me know in case you need something.
All the very best.
