Which course to pursue forensic science? What is the eligibility? Which are the good colleges to pursue the same?

Hi Binu, 1) To get admission into bachelor’s degree a student must pass 10+2 from any recognized board with minimum 55%. After graduation you may go for diploma courses in Forensic Science & Criminology which is of 1 year duration. 2) Some of the courses you may consider : Certificate Course in forensic Science Diploma in Forensic Science and Criminology Diploma in Cyber Crime Bachelor of Forensic Science and Criminology Masters of Forensic Science and Criminology Research Masters in Forensic Science and Criminology Post Graduate Diploma in Forensic Science and Criminology 3) If you wish to become a specialist who conducts post-mortems on dead bodies to find out the cause of death, you must first secure an MBBS degree and then go for an MD in Forensic Science. 4) Some of the universities offering forensic science are : -Amity University -Gujarat Forensic Sciences University -Gujarat University -Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University -Jain University -Kurukshetra University -Maharishi Dayanand University While selecting the best, you need to check some of the important parameters such as recognition, year of establishment, batch size, syllabus, faculty, fees, placements etc. 5) Job Opportunities : - After the course completion, you may work as : Research assistant Forensic scientist Criminologist Investigator - You may find work in various governments, private and public sector organizations such as private investigation agencies, CBI, AIIMS, Police etc. - Government organizations that recruit forensic criminologists are railways, banks, forensic labs, armed force department, insurance companies etc. - With relevant experience, you can set up your own private detective agency to perform operations. 6) Salary : The salary of a forensic science expert may differ from one institution to other depending on the position one is working in. Those professionals who are working in government sector will have a fixed salary and other benefits whereas the salary for a private detective may vary on the basis of the cases they are handling.
