In theory it is quite simple to enter a pilot training program in India - or even worldwide.
You need to be minimum 18 in age.
Must have Maths and Physics in high school ( This is a DGCA requirement) with atleast 60% passing marks.
Must be capable to hold class 1 medical certificate from a DGCA approved aviation doctor / institute.
And you must be backed with money between Rs 40 to 50 lacs ( about 70,000 USD) if you really want a good ATPL from a west European country - say Germany - UK might be but more expensive.
It is important that you get an ATP license although you can become an airline pilot with a CPL - a lesser license which will only let you fly as copilot.
Only few European and some other nations like New Zealand or Australia would get you a Frozen ATP license in your 200 hrs training time. In US you would have to fly 1500 hrs to get an ATP license.
During training you would receive about 785 hours of class room instruction and 100 hours CBT (Computer Based Training) including revisions, progress checks, exercises and exam preparation
You would study following subjects:
1. Air Law
2. Aircraft General Knowledge
a) Airframe and Systems
b) Power plants
c) Electronics
d) Instrumentation
3. Flight Performance and Planning
a) Performance
b) Flight Planning and Monitoring
c) Mass and Balance
4. Human Performance and Limitations
5. Meteorology
6. Navigation
a) General Navigation
b) Radio Navigation
7. Operational Procedures
8. Principles of Flight ( Aerodynamics)
9. Communications
Your Flight Training would be in following modules
Phase I -10 hours - leading to first Solo Flight
Phase II -20 hours - leading to first Solo X-Country Flight
Phase III - 15 hours - PPL Proficiency 30 hours - Commercial Training & 05 hours Night flying
Phase IV - 40 hours - Basic Instrument Training (Simulator) Plus 45 hours - Instrument Flight Training And 15 hours - Instrument Flight Training Multi Engine
Phase V - 15 hours - Multi Crew Cooperation (Simulator)
There will be an Examination Check-ride of approx. 150 minutes on a Multi Engine Aircraft
The training will take about 18 - 24 months.
There is no upper age limit as such but it is advisable that you get your pilot license by 25 to make the maximum out of your career as an airline pilot.
An ATP license would get you job offers from foerign airlines like Emirates, Etihad in addition to your own airlines.
