    In India, the most common and recognised degree for pursuing a career in surgery is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). This degree is equivalent to the MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree offered in some other countries. The MBBS degree is the foundation for becoming a medical doctor and is a prerequisite for further specialisation in surgical fields.
