Which engineering branch is better among mechanical and electrical engineering?

Jayant don't go with which stream is better. Go with what you want do after studying B.Tech. You may take following considerations. If you like computer, want to build crazy application or something related to software go with Computer Science engineering. If you like playing with machines/motors or electricity go ahead with Mechanical engineering. Or Electrical engineering. If you are India, after studying Electronics and communication engineering most of the students gets job/work in IT companies. Only few percent gets chance in electronics companies. So I would suggest, better to study Computer Science engineering. If you want to sail through vast sea go with Marine engineering. If you have not decided what you want to do after B.Tech, sit for one or two days and decided what you want to do. If still confused, select any of the engineering mentioned in point # 1, 2 and 3 (Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics). Best of luck.

Hi, You can go for electrical engineering or mechanical engineering if you have studied Physics, Mathematics and English in class 12th. Eligibility criteria for taking admission in B.Tech Electrical Engineering or mechanical engineering is pass with 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 (with Physics, Mathematics and English) and you have to qualify entrance test along with it. Electrical Engineering It is the branch of engineering that deals with the technology of electricity. Electrical engineers work on a wide range of components, devices and systems, from tiny microchips to huge power station generators. Early experiments with electricity included primitive batteries and static charges. However, the actual design, construction and manufacturing of useful devices and systems began with the implementation of Michael Faraday's Law of Induction, which essentially states that the voltage in a circuit is proportional to the rate of change in the magnetic field through the circuit. This law applies to the basic principles of the electric generator, the electric motor and the transformer. The advent of the modern age is marked by the introduction of electricity to homes, businesses and industry, all of which were made possible by electrical engineers. The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. In order to accomplish this, a broad range of skills are needed. The mechanical engineer needs to acquire particular skills and knowledge. He/she needs to understand the forces and the thermal environment that a product, its parts, or its subsystems will encounter; to design them for functionality, aesthetics, and the ability to withstand the forces and the thermal environment they will be subjected to; and to determine the best way to manufacture them and ensure they will operate without failure. Perhaps the one skill that is the mechanical engineer's exclusive domain is the ability to analyze and design objects and systems with motion. So, you can choose any of the above depending on your interest. Hello Jayant, Electrical engineering is the design and study of electronics, power, and electrical systems while mechanical engineering is the design and study of power, energy, weapons systems, aircraft and transportation products, and other equipment. Electrical engineering is one of the main branches of engineering which is concerned with the use of electricity to transmit energy while mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, manufacture, and maintenance of mechanical devices and tools. Both can involve the field of mechatronics and robotics, but electrical engineering is also concerned with electronics and telecommunications while mechanical engineering is also concerned with nanotechnology and drafting. It depends on the college in which you are going to take admission. Some colleges have better placements for mechanical and some have better for electrical.

Both mechanical and electrical are equally good core branches of engineering. You may choose any based on your interest. Mechanical is an evergreen branch with currently having a lot of job opportunities.
