Hi, both these branches are among the top engineering branches. You have to decide which is best for you depending on your interests. If you like solving mechanical problems, physics and dynamics you should opt for mechanical engineering. If you are more fond of computers, softwares, programming etc you should opt for IT.

From the job perspective, getting a job in the IT sector is easier than mechanical. But if you love coding you can go for IT, otherwise, mechanical will be the best option.

    Hello Girish,
Every branch of engineering is good. You have to just pay some attention to your studies to become a good employee. If I will talk about IT branch, in this branch, you will find jobs only in private companies while In Mechanical, you can go for either in private companies or for government jobs. But, the placement scenario of mechanical branch is good only in some reputed colleges. Many of the students try for GATE after B.Tech to get job in government sector or in PSU's.

Both are good. It depends on interest. Mechanical is evergreen branch and good option for public sector as well as government sector. IT is different and more demanding branches at present time and day by day new technology developed.

In terms of placement and package, IT will be a better option between the two. But in terms of opportunities and knowledge, mechanical will be a better option.

IT is better because it has more scope for employment in the private sector. Mechanical has limited options in government sectors with tough competition and lesser opportunities.

It will be better for you to choose the branch according to your origin of interest, because all in all you are the one who has to study. Considering corporate world scenario let me tell you that it is possible for you to work in and IT company being a core branch student, but being an IT student, you can't handle jobs designed for core branches. I prefer you to take out time and do some sort of research on subjects so that you could find out which branch offers you subjects of your interest, so that you could clarify your doubts about which branch you should choose.

Mechanical Engineering is called an evergreen branch, as Mechanical Engineers seek suitable placements in almost all segments in the industry. IT based jobs have been found to be recession dependent, but lets hope for the better.

IT is a networking based branch while mechanical is a machine based branch.
