Which engineering branch is better: Electronics and communication engineering or IT engineering?

Actually both are good. It depends upon your taste. In placement wise ECE is little better than IT as it has more offers in the public sector. Also ECE is considered to be somewhat of an evergreen branch. If you do specialization after doing B.Tech in ECE, there is a great demand in the market for such people. Also ECE person can get a job in IT but this is not the same level as a job an IT Engineer can get. IT also has very good placements and the average salary is higher than ECE. But, it is not an evergreen branch.

It completely depends on your interest, what you want to become 10 years from now and of course the college in which you are planning to pursue. All the engineering branches have their own importance and future. Since Im from ECE, let me just compare and contrast ECE with respect to CSE. ECE: Pros: What you study is the basics for whatever the world is now and will be in the future (Integration of Processors, Mobile phones anything and everything I suppose. ) You have an option of choosing between core and IT with regard to your placements ( But you might have to work hard) Evergreen: Any recession in the IT field, you can always jump to core ( Provided you have good knowledge) Higher studies will always be an amazing option and Opportunities abroad are infinte. Cons: It is 2nd the toughest branch to study ( 1st being EEE, according to me) If you loose interest and don't like the subjects, Trust me! The 4 years will be a nightmare. Lot of calculus involved This is obvious in any Engineering course. If you love maths, its great! I was good at math. But. ECE has a lot of integral calculus and it can be stressful at times. Trust me, All the semesters, I had 1 subject named maths and other subjects had different names but filled with calculus ) The subjects are interesting but are really tough and I had to burn the midnight oil, every semester to clear them. Placements: Generally, the count of core companies is way lesser than the IT companies with regard to placements in colleges. If you can get into core companies, nothing like it! ( You can try for IT jobs of course, but generally CSE students will obviously have an edge over you ) To conclude: I generally feel that CSE people tend to enjoy college life more and have a lot of free time. But coding is not a joke! It does need a lot of mind and effort to be put in. CSE can be a nightmare if you don't like/not really good at coding. Ive seen my friends from ECE getting placed in awesome core companies. So did I have friends who chose CSE because their cut off couldn't get them ECE, now placed in companies with higher packages than me. So at the end of the day, it is how you take your course and what you want to do. Both have their own sides of positives and negatives. So its up to you to decide the path of your life. The equally important part is to choose the right reputed university like LPU !
