It depends upon what all branches take admission via Diploma. That is the deciding factor to get the desired B.Tech branch.

    Hello AVI,
Every trade or stream can be challenging and interesting If you go deeper as each one of engineering discipline is good. It all depends on your personal interests and sometimes the inspiration you get from a friend or relative who is working the same field (this happens normally). People have already given good answers here by mentioning some of the highlights of each discipline. But as you have mentioned that you have done the Diploma already but didn't mention in which stream you have done it. None the less, I will suggest some of the good institutes in India to pursue an engineering degree in any basic field: -Birla Insti

Well, it depends upon your pursuit. Both the stream goes through field work. Both streams will give you the opportunity to work in top PSU (public sector) through GATE exam and top leading companies also. In civil, you will get deep learning about the material sciences whereas mechanical is more manufacturing process oriented. Select one which matches your interest.

Civil Engineering is considered a good engineering branch and students pursuing a course in the branch get different types of jobs. If you are interested in the field then you should definitely go for the branch. Hope it helps.

Since the piping course requires knowing certain basics in mechanical engineering, it is the most suitable for those who have either done their Diploma or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Engineering is a stream of education that involves the application of Science, Technology and Mathematics to innovate, design, develop and maintain machines, structures, software, hardware and systems & processes. This field offers a range of career opportunities across all industries, making it one of the most sought after course pursued by students after Class XII especially those from the Science stream. The pay is slightly better for Mechanical and the field is more general (they have a broader knowledge of many areas verses the more specialised Civil. ). Civil Engineers can work in nearly any sized city; whereas, MS are slightly more limited. So, you can choose as per your interest. Admission in any programme depends on qualifying the Eligibility criteria for the same. As per the Eligibility criteria for B.Tech Lateral Entry is to Pass with 60% aggregate marks in Diploma (engineering. ). (any stream) 3 years after 10th or 2 years after 10+2 (Non-Medical) or B.Sc. (Non-Medical) or B.Sc. (Computer Science) or BCA or equivalent, subject

It totally depends on your subject of interest. Firstly, you have to find which field you are interested in, although both the branches have wide scope.

Basically, it depend on you which kind of work you want to go for. If you want to go for mechanical engineering, then you can go for it, but from my opinion there is good career scope and increment in civil engineering field. You can start your own work after graduation, and also get some high opportunities after qualifying GATE.

I've had a really good experience with the mechanical engineering faculty at Chandigarh University. Most of them are PhD holders, so you can tell they know their subject inside out. What I like is that they're not just teaching from books—they share real-world examples, guide us in labs, and help with projects. The faculty is approachable, so if you ever get stuck on something, you can just ask, and they'll explain patiently. They also encourage students to explore electives like Thermal & Energy Engineering, Industrial Manufacturing, or Design & Robotics, and help you pick what suits your career goals.

Yes, Chandigarh University is a good choice for B.E. in Mechanical Engineering. What I really like about the programme is the variety of specializations you can pick, like Thermal & Energy, Industrial Manufacturing & Management, or Automation & Robotics. The labs are another strong point from 3D printing and advanced welding labs to industry-backed centres by Honda, Mahindra, Hyundai, and MG Motors. These collaborations give you hands-on exposure that feels very close to real-world industry work. On top of that, the department is both ABET and NBA accredited, which adds global recognition. With regular industrial visits, workshops, and
