Which engineering stream is better among IT and software engineering?

There is hardly any difference between the two, just the nomenclature difference but more preferred branch is software engineering

There is not much difference in both, but software engineering is a good choice over IT.

I'm guessing you want to know what major to pursue at university in order to work as a software engineer, right? In addition, I will answer your question based on the assumption that you are a person from India. Having a scientific education is essential for a career as a Software Engineer or in any other branch of Engineering. There are two approaches in India. In order to take the 12th grade Science exam, you may study for two years after finishing the 10th grade. In order to enter the field of engineering, you must take the appropriate entrance exams. The results of both the entrance exams and the PCM Physics Chemistry and Mathematics) exams taken in your senior year of high school will determine whether or not you are admitted. After that, you will be accepted into a 4-year Engineering programme. Direct enrollment in a 3-year Diploma Course is possible after completion of Grade 10. Keep in mind that if you want to get into Computer Engineering, you'll need a Diploma programme where Computers is a required major. You may skip the first year of engineering and go right into the second after earning your Diploma. There is also no need to take an exam to join.

It is basically the same I believe with some differences in the core subjects. Information technology and computer Science are great courses on their own. I believe there must be some specific difference but not as such. The demand in the industry is actually the same and I believe that information technology is a kind of specialisation of computer Science because there is a specialisation called data Science in CSE. There is more hype about CSE but I do not think there is any need or compulsion for you to pursue CSE. Just do what you believe you have passion/interest for in your life. Now, let me inform you about a great university called Lovely Professional University. The education quality is pretty good in LPU. LPU invests a lot of time and money in maintaining world-class education and having world-class faculty in it. LPU has a huge number of international students studying here which proves the point that education is top-notch in LPU. The faculty to student ratio at LPU is 40:1. The professors are mostly Ph.D. s. They go deep into the topics to make students understand and always ask for confirmation before leading ahead. Now, after spending almost 10 months studying at LPU virtually, I am hustling up, taking opportunities, and interacting with people. I have come across many learned teachers (almost all are Ph.D. who were very sweet and friendly. For every concern that a student has, there is a different department. I can just say that we are a community that is transforming the education model in India and the world.

The job opportunities are good in both branches. You can choose any branch that suits your interest. CSE has more scope than IT if we compare both branches.

Well, each and every branch in engineering is good. We can't compare them. There are just few differences like mechanical, electrical and civil are evergreen branches, but CS IT and EC have high placement records. Other than this, you may also take chemical, metallurgy, mechatronics, etc. So, choose a suitable branch. Go for it.
