CAT is conducted once a year and the top institutes accept CAT score. MAT is conducted 4 times in a year so most top institutes (A+) do not prefer MAT score. You should write the exams according to the institutes you are aiming. You should first check which score they accept.

CAT is conducted for admission to IIMs. Many a standard institution does accept CAT score. This ensures the quality of students. MAT is for university MBA courses.

Both these exams are conducted for MBA, but most of the grade A+ colleges take admission through CAT.

There is no CAT PI shortlist for IIMs. Candidates have to simply login with their CAT credentials and fill the PI shortlist form.
