The Ph.D. degree is awarded in recognition of outstanding accomplishments, independent research, and the application of scientific knowledge to the solution of technical and scientific problems. The basic concept underlying the research work is creative and productive inquiry. The specifics of various Departments/Centres/Schools' research programmes. Course work and other academic requirements: Each Department/ Centre offers special make-up or pre-doctoral courses to compensate for any deficiencies in the breadth of fundamental training or a proper foundation for advanced work. These courses are taught by faculty members as well as guest speakers and industry experts. Candidates with a B.Tech. /M.Sc. /M.A. Or equivalent degree must normally complete a minimum of 12* credits with a minimum required GPA of 7.5. M.Tech. Or equivalent degree holders must complete at least 6* credits with a minimum GPA of 7.5. *A Department/Centre may specify a higher credit requirement for all Ph.D. programmes and/or require an individual scholar to complete a greater number of credits based on his or her background and level of preparation. Admission to Ph.D. Programs: Admission to Ph.D. programmes is typically based on an interview conducted by the Department/Centre concerned via its Department Research Committee (DRC) / Centre Research Committee (CRC). A written exam may also be used by DRC/CRC to screen applicants. Every year, in March for the first semester and in October for the second semester, advertisements for the programmes are placed in Employment News and other top newspapers to solicit applications from candidates. Ph.D. programmes are typically announced in the Employment News and major newspapers in the months of March and October each year, with admissions taking place in the months of May and December. Additionally, through DRC/CRC, admission to the Ph.D. programme is available at any time of the year. Although course enrollment is only possible at the start of the following semester, Ph.D. scholars can join the institute at any time of the year. At the time of the interview, such candidates must also have the necessary academic credentials and experience. Unless otherwise permitted, they must enrol in the institute no later than four weeks after receiving the admission offer. Admission is contingent upon openings in the pertinent specialities.
