You will have a lot of options while doing the Ph.D itself. Apply for a post doctoral position if you are interested for further research and good opportunities in academics.
The best person to guide you would be your Ph.D supervisor. You must be proactive during this period doing research activities and teaching assistantships. Teaching assistantships are vital as this will also give you a practical experience and is very common among Ph.D students. Also establish network with the industry.
