Which field should i choose agriculture or biotechnology?

It depends upon your interest, but you can have better career opportunities in biotechnology rather than agriculture. There is great demand of biotechnology aspirants in medical field go for it best of luck.

Recruitment wise agriculture is better. Agricultural scientists get recruited by central and state government, etc. UPPSC advertises for B.Sc Ag pass outs throughout the year. Though the vacancies are low in number, B.Tech Biotech will bring you no government jobs, very less employability in the private sector too. If one wants to do research to discover something new then biotech is a better option but for that, B.Tech/M.Tech won't suffice, Ph.D is the way. For employability, agriculture is better. B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D in Ag can provide jobs in both the public and private sectors. Thanks.

Both courses are good but Agriculture is less Competitive field and comparatively opportunities are more considering that we are primarily an agricultural country. A very small percentage of our students opt for an agricultural major, only because they don't realize its potential. One basic advantage that agriculture has over other sectors: other industries might need down-sizing, but feeding the world is a job that isn't ever going to face recession. Most students are well aware of the streams like engineering and medicine, and post-graduate degrees like the MBA. But you may have not given any thought to a B.Sc in Agriculture. The demand for trained professionals in the field of agriculture is high. The course fee is negligible. It is four years undergraduate Bachelor degree programme which generally includes agriculture Science, use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil Science, water resource management, animal and poultry management, basics of biotechnology etc. The aim of the programme is to train students improve agriculture productivity, manage products and contribute to future development of the sector through research activities. There are plenty of government as well as private sector jobs available for B.Sc Agriculture graduates. They can be appointed as Research Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, Agriculture Officer, Agriculture Loan Officer (in Banks), Production Manager, Operations Manager and Farm Manager with State agriculture departments. In the private sector agriculture Science graduates may find jobs as managers at plantations, as officers at fertilizer manufacturing firms, agriculture machinery industries, agricultural products marketing firms, food processing units etc. The average starting salary of these officers is generally between 5 to 6 Lacs per annum (Including Incentive). I am enlisting a few good college for B.Sc. Dear friend as per my opinion and my knowledge both the courses are very good but dear in case of selection any one and in case of placement you should go with biotechnology. As it has much more opportunities and better scopes after completing this course. All the best.
