Which has a better scope and why: direction or documentary production?

Direction and documentary production are not opposite domains and can never be. A director is part of the documentary production as well. The director may make informative/educational work, entertaining movies, animations, thrillers, romance or children movies. The direction is the most important thing. Hence, direction is a comprehensive term whereas documentary production is a part of the main.
