If you are interested in doing software development and design (including coding), you should consider taking up Computer Science Engineering. Information Technology technically deals with information flow - it can be any information and now days more state-of-art technologies (including Computer Science, Software, Programming, Mobile Technologies, MIS, etc) are used to support or implement flow of technology.
    Best regards and good luck
