How better these both branches are for you will depend on your interest and more on the college from where you pursue the degree. The salary and placement for civil engineering are horrible even in some NITs. Whereas the scene doesn't go much well in case of chemical engineering itself. But there are colleges, some of NITs where there is a good placement record for both of these disciplines.
