It all depends on your goal and, indeed, your interest. If your aim is to get a good private job or become a programmer, you're good to go for competitive coding. But suppose your aim is either to do a Master's (Master of Technology), a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) or to get a job in public sector undertakings. In that case, you must prepare for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. I hope this will help you.

This conceptuality varies from person to person, so according to me if I have to choose one I will definitely go for coding. So the coding mindset comes with high confidence on logic building, understanding of data structures and a good grip of algorithms; now the GATE mindset comes with a plan of higher studies in India form the prestigious Universities but at the end for engineering, mindset should be solution oriented through which one can easily fit into any opportunity that comes in near future.
