Which is better, PHP or Python and why?

LAMP (Linux Apache Mysql PHP/Python) is very good combination for a developer to start the career which is highly in demand. Most of the servers are running on Linux now a days so if you know how to manage your application and how to deploy you web application apart from the coding will give you added advantage in industry. First of all you must confirm to yourself whether you are good in programming or not if you are not good then you can opt System Administration or Network Administration or Security Administration or Database Administration line.

PHP and Python both have their own pros and cons. When you are more into Web development then PHP comes handy as it requires less time in learning. Basically PHP is language designed specially for web development. It easily gets integrated with front end technologies like html and javascript. Due to this website development becomes easy with PHP when compared to other languages. Also php is open source and its core development team keeps on adding new functionality which gives developers more items already on plate. Coming to python, it is web and system level programming language. Using python one not only can develop website but also can develop system level scripting. But in python one require to write his/her own algorithms from basic to advanced. For example in PHP you get basic sorting and searching algorithms in core APIs but in python mostly you have to implement. Therefore if someone is looking for developing his/her own algorithms by implementing own mathematical formulae then should go for Python. And if you are into production and have to develop applications on large scale using web technologies then surely opt for PHP. But would recommend to take taste of both.

Hi Gunjan, Both the languages are very different in terms of history and applicability, so it is not fair to compare both the languages, both the languages are equally good in there domain. All the best
