Dear Rik, Both the branches are considered among the top. These days, the core jobs in both these fields are there, but need immense talent and knowledge. The choice must be made on the basis of your interests, aptitude, personality traits and aligning these with your aspirations. The role of your university is also important. I suggest you to pursue from only the top colleges like VIT, LPU, PEC, Thapar etc. DVD.

A lot depends on your interest. Both the branches are doing quite well in the industry. If you are more passionate about computers then you need to go for IT otherwise Mechanical would be a good option where in you learn about the mechanism of automobiles etc. You need ti check an institution with care. It should provide the best academics of labs, platform, faculty, exposure, placements etc. You can browse good colleges like SRM, BITs PILANI, LPU. Both are the top preferred branches in engineering. Most often and Mechanical Engineering turns out to be the primary option for students. There are different reasons to choose IT for Mechanical and vice-versa. Both branches have good job opportunities. LPU becomes the best place to pursue an engineering degree with highly qualified teaching staff, best laboratories, and modern technologies. LPU provides abundant opportunities for students to think out of the box. Being an alumnus of LPU I would prefer LPU. LPU focuses on the overall growth of the students.
