Animation industry in India is expected to grow at a pace faster than even the IT industry's! Animation as a career option is a field where you can use your creative juices. As per the FICCI KPMG reports, the industry is growing at CAGR of 22 per cent, followed by post-production at 15 per cent, animation production at 9 per cent and animation services at 1 per cent. Chaar Sahibzaade is a 2014 Punjabi language is considered as the watershed moment for this industry. The movie cost was Rs.20 crores and it earned Rs.70 crores globally! This opened the floodgates of investments in VFX studios all across the country. We can SEE that the animation, VFX, gaming and comics (AVGC) sector of India is only set to grow further. As of now, 40,000 (8%) people out of 5 Lacs people in the media and entertainment sector are employed in the animation, VFX and gaming side. This figure is expected to rise to 90,000 by year 2021 and 4.4 Lacs by 2025. Work opportunities for quality animators and related professionals like graphic designer, character designers, multimedia developer, 3D modelers, and game developer, key frame animators, layout artists etc. Exists in following sectors at large- Film & Television Advertising E-learning Online and Print News Media Video Gaming Cartoon production Theater These are just a few examples only. Opportunities exists both with government as well as private sector enterprises. Animation itself is an industry, and as industry its on boom. You can study animation, graphics and multimedia courses either as a full-time or part-time student. Several programs are offered like certificates, diplomas, and degrees etc. Since the field is creativity intensive, the ambiance, the culture and whole pedagogy must be such that creativity of students is used optimally. You can expect to learn about software programs such as the following in your computer animation degree: Audio editing: Audacity, Adobe Audition, WavePad. Image creation and editing: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Aperture, Core PaintShop, GIMP. Motion graphics: Adobe After Effects, Adobe Flash.
