I think some good books for this are
by V. Spraul, "Think Like a Programmer", R. Hyde's Write Great Code (vols. I and II). And
Second Edition of Code Complete by S. McConnell.

There's not one book for programming. First, you should select a programming language that you wish to learn. Then we'll be able to provide book's names.

There are many programming languages for programming. Few examples : C, C+,Java, Python, PHP, etc.
So for each programming language, there are many standard and good books. Following books are very good for beginning :
