Selecting a branch in engineering is strictly a personal choice. However, it is seen that people often get driven by the employability factor of core branches of mechanical, civil, electrical, computer science and metallurgical engineering.
You should take time and put thoughts that what are the things that drive you. These may not directly relate to academics but can prove as an important factor for you to choose your branch.

A branch should be opted according to your own interest. Like, if you have interest in computers you should go with computer science engineering , if you like mechanics or electronics you can go with mechanical and electrical engineering respectively.
In today's world people consider placements as the most important criteria for opting a branch and a college.
Nowadays computer science engineering is the highest paid branch among all and mechanical and electronics are after it.

Dear Vivek, apart from core branches or traditional branches, you can also opt for branches like Mechatronics and Petroleum. If we talk about the Mechatronics field than it is a combination of Mechanical + Electronics it is having a great scope because in Industry you can hire one engineer who knows both field.
