Dear Karthik, The best colleges for civil engineering are IITs/NITs. Amrita, LPU, Amity, UPES, etc. My cousin did B.Tech and M.Tech in Civil engineering from LPU and got placed in an MNC. He shared the following things about the civil engineering at LPU: 1. Most of the faculty staff are from reputed organizations with their the highest degree from various reputed institutes such as IITs, NITs, etc. Apart from that, faculty have got previous industrial experience also. 2. The capstone project is an integral part of B.Tech programme in which students have to pick a live project based on the practical problem-based scenario (ideally from industry) and work for six months under a mentor and present a report at the end. This is beneficial to enhance your presentation skills. 3. There is an internship programme which could be an opportunity for getting work experience and increase your chance to get employment after you pass out. But, of course, your academic record should be good to get this placement option. 4. Industrial visits are organized to nearby construction sites from time to time. There, you can SEE actual construction work going on. Be prepared to have dust on your shoes (believe me, it will be worth a lot). You have to ask questions yourself and trigger interest in the activities around you. 5. You will get some courses from soft skills, English language, mental and analytical aptitude side. This sounds dull to you as of now. But you will feel its importance when you face an interview panel in a company during your placement drives. 6. They have very good placement records and good infrastructure companies visit their campus, L & T, Simplex Piles Ltd, Era Infrastructure, Gammon India Ltd to name a few. 7. Career oriented Software training in project labs is given. To work in this profession, you are supposed to be familiar with software like MS-Project, STAAD Pro, MX Road, etc. None the less, you will be trained in Auto CAD in your second year which is prerequisite for any Civil Engineer. 8. Every theory course is complemented with relevant lab-based practical work. Some of the labs are based on field testing where experimental work is to be done, e. g. Soil Lab & Surveying Lab. Being a member of prestige LPU, I would recommend LPU for civil engineering. LPU is one of the finest universities in India. The dept. Of Civil Engineering offers very dynamic study content. It not only focuses on teaching concepts of civil engineering but also lays stress on the practical application of the principles and theories. Being more interested in structural engineering I personally found the content of courses like, Design of Structures, Bridge design, Fluid mechanics designed in such an interesting way that you hardly find any other university working on syllabus enhancement to such an extent as LPU does. The dept. Of civil engineering has all the required labs with up-to-date machinery and modern equipment. They also have an NABL-accredited lab for mechanical testing of building materials which makes LPU the only private university in India and the first university in Punjab to receive this accreditation. Their curriculum for civil engineering is revised every year by leading professionals in the field of the construction industry and the students represent LPU at various national and international level competitions for civil engineering. Their placements are also at par with the demand in the industry. Many construction giants like Linkhouse Buildwell, KEC international, L&T have been vising LPU for placements. They have labs maintained by Bentley which provides training for the latest software which are in demand by the industry. As a passout of LPU Mechanical Engineering I had multiple opportunities to hope in the School of Civil Engineering which was adjacent to our school and due to many events played together I had few friends in civil engineering too who are well placed in overseas construction company. To me Civil Engineering at LPU is the best. Here are my reasons :- LPU has become the only private university to obtain the NABL Accreditation of its laboratory testing facility under which the Unilab-Mechanical Testing of building and construction materials in the School of Civil Engineering, LPU is NABL accredited. There are certain remarkable points that makes LPU better for Civil Engineering, like:- LPU prepares their students from day 1 to become the most sought after civil engineers through meticulously designed framework. Students are instilled with the latest advancements in the field of Civil Engineering through construction site visits, workshops as well as competitive workshops. As an LSCE student, you will be adept at industry-specific software like STAAD-Pro, Etabs, MX Road, and, MS Project.
