For the core branches, you can always chose a decent yet popular government college, that has a high value of placements and ranking.

IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur (almost equal) IIT Madras IIT KGP IIT Guwahati IIT Hyderabad IIT Roorkee, ISM Dhanbad, IIT-BHU (and new IITs). .

Other than NITs and IITs, COEP, Government Amravati are the best college in engineering.
