    Hi,
Both are equivalent degrees as such because both are Bachelors degrees. In my opinion, B.A. would be preparing you better for your competitive exams as the college from where you pursue your B.A. Especially, B.A. Honors would be giving you workshops and seminars to attend which would add up to your knowledge. Colleges like LPU, BITS send you to other universities for debates and general knowledge quiz programs where in you automatically are pushed into the much needed aspect of knowledge for your competitive exams, So check a college with care like LPU, BITS, ANNA, MIRANDA etc. to fulfill your high aims.

According to the official data, total 421 IAS officers of all time are BA degree holders. 121 IAS officers are BA Hons.
    B.Com - 120
    B.Sc - 350
    BE/B.Tech - 1063
There is no clear winner. BA or B.Sc whichever you choose. Ultimately your preparation and tenacity of purpose will make you a winner.

For IAS exams, most of the questions are touched from all around, Most of the IAS having B.A. Degree, There is no clear scenario which one is good, you cab be asked any question from anywhere. So, you have to focus on current affairs, history and more. As per me both are good, you have to prepare and give extra effort.

Honestly, according to the graph analysis of degree background related to IAS qualifiers, its a highly heterogeneous data, Degree in any stream hardly matters when it comes to pursuing IAS exam but yes if you wish to lower your burden to some 20% you may go for B.A. As that will help you make a basic interest and foundation to read subjects related to IAS exam in vast. But personally, IAS exam is not degree or stream or merit oriented; the pure mantra is long sitting hours, long reading hours and the retaining power!

Most of the people will suggest you go for BA which will include subjects like Political Science, history, geography economics, etc., which are the basic topics asked in IAS exam. But when you pursue a B.Sc or B.Tech degree from any renowned college it will make you a hard as well as a smart worker. You will learn to tackle the subject load, practicals and ultimately you will grow as an all-rounder. For clearing any exam, you need to do hard work as well as smart work.

Degree doesn't matter in UPSC CSE. The thing that matters is the knowledge. So don't compare between degrees as any graduate can apply for the exam. Focus on your preparation and get success.
