If you don't want to skip a year before you crack CLAT then you can choose this alternative. Lucknow University is fairly good.

State universities are always fine, but NLUs are definitely the best ones. So, try taking CLAT and making it to a National Law School.

For law best colleges are the National law colleges of Bangalore, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Delhi and Mumbai. Then, it is NALSAR Hyderabad, Symbiosis Pune and Noida, Christ University, Bangalore, etc. Check Lucknow university's admission criteria - does it accept CLAT or any other format of entrance.
Generally, in all law colleges For admission you need to clear the entrance exams - CLAT/AILET/SET/CET/MNLAUT - These are different exams for different colleges. But basically the preparation is same as the question patterns are same for all.
So, it is important to prepare well - take up coaching. There are many coaching centres giving CLAT coaching.
