Without any bias towards any particular college, I ll offer you my own perspective. It depends on your end goals or objectives. Your decision making should not be on the basis of placements, packages but on quality of students ( your peer group), faculty, infrastructure, curriculum, and the alumni network. When it comes to choosing the best university for engineering, IIT becomes the first preference but IIT is not just the only option. Few of the other leading options for engineering are : National Institute of Engineering Lovely Professional University Thapar University UPES Dehradun College of Engineering, Pune Symbiosis Engineering College Delhi College of Engineering Among these options, I would suggest you to checkout Lovely Professional University. I have heard a lot about LPU, LPU has well qualified faculty members, great infrastructure, complete placement assistance, live projects, well-equipped labs and lot more. My cousin brother is pursuing B.Tech Mechanical from LPU, reviews are pretty good, He told me that the engineering stream at LPU itself has received an overall good rating from students and alumni. School of Mechanical Engineering organized an International Conference on Recent Advances in Mechanical Engineering (ICRAME), in which experts from leading brands like Maruti Suzuki, Biomimicry India were present. Faculty members are highly qualified, most of the faculty members have done their Ph.D. and others are pursuing, They have at least minimum of 5 years of experience and ample amount of knowledge, both theoretical and practical knowledge. They are cooperative and whenever you need their help they are ready to help you out. The syllabus is updated every 6 months which personally, It has separate lab facilities available for each course like robotics Lab, research lab, postgraduate lab, aviation lab, lab for fashion designing, advance kitchen lab etc. There are more than 100 companies that are coming in LPU for recruitment of mechanical students. The packages varies from 3 Lacs to 12 Lacs per annum. On an average, the packages are 5 Lacs in a very core company which gradually sees a couple of rapid promotions based on your handwork. There is nothing called top. You will find that in one survey one college is at top and then in other survey saying that another institute is at top. But there are some good private universities in India which are as follows: BITS Pilnai VIT Shiv Nadar University Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology Geeta University, Panipat, SRM Bennett University DAIICT Amrita Vishwa vidyapitham BML University LNMIIT Jaipur BIT Misra JIIT Noida Amity Noida Manipal University It is a little hard to say which is the "best" because it really depends on the student's preferences and research interests but in my opinion.
