CMAT and MAT, these both exams are among the important management exams. But CMAT is bit tougher than MAT. These exams are almost the same but difficulty level is somehow different.
MAT exam includes Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, Data Analysis, Mathematical Skills, etc. and CMAT includes Quantitative Techniques, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, etc.
There are many good institutes like NIT Warangal, Institute of Finance and International Management-Bangalore, etc. are also giving admission through MAT and institutes like JBIMS-Mumbai, Goa Institute of Management-Goa, K. J. Somaiya Institute of Man...more -
Both the colleges have different level of difficulty as MAT is accepted by tier 2-3 colleges and CMAT is accepted by JBIMS, KJ Somaiya, etc. so there is a difference between both the exams. CMAT is much more difficult then MAT as you will be getting more opportunities after getting good score in CMAT as compared to MAT.
MAT is conducted by AIMA all India Management association for Admission into MBA course by tier 2-3 college whereas CMAT is conducted by AICTE for Admission into JBIMS , KJ Somaiya, Goa Institute of Management, etc. are top college accepting the score of CMAT. So it needs more prepared studies then MAT.

Before comparing MAT and CMAT toughness, I will be like to provide general information about CMAT and MAT like exam pattern, institutions conducting these exam, frequency of these exam in year and which B Schools use them for admission process.
MAT stands for Management Aptitude Test and it is an aptitude test conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA).
MAT exam is offered 4 times in a year.
MAT is 2 and half hour exam comprise of 200 questions.
