Which MBA specialization is best for me?

Girls usually prefer HR traditionally. but that does not mean they can't do well in other specializations. It all depends on your area of interest. Most MBA courses have a common 1st year and you can decide during then which specialization to opt for 2nd year. BE production with MBA in operations can be advantageous as some companies may view you as focused on your area of specialization.

Your MBA specialization basically depends on your personality, skills, and career goals. The traditional fields of Marketing and Finance will always remain popular. Those who prefer to crunch numbers and are comfortable relegating to the background with balance sheets may do well with Finance specialisation. Those who love to interact with clients, are creative and innovative, and can influence people easily can choose Marketing as their specialisation. Business Operations is the best MBA specialisation for those who have technical or engineering backgrounds and love looking after men and machines, and backend processes where the real action takes place. Human Resources or HR is a stream for people's person and is a job for those who have a charismatic personality that can mobilize employees and inspires trust and loyalty for the company. Information Technology or IT specialisation is for management graduate who are geeks at heart who love computers, gadgets, and latest technology.

Being a CAT trainer for the last 15 years, let me start by stating, that it is imperative for you to do your PGDM, from the top 50 B Schools in India. You need to get a minimum of 90 percentile in the CAT exam, to stand a realistic chance of making it to these B Schools. Coming to the specialization, the decision has to be taken by you. You have to list down your skill sets after doing a honest introspection. You can take the help of a professional, if possible. You have to then match your skill sets with the function. A word of caution. Drawing from my work experience of close to 20 years, with reputed corporate houses, I firmly believe that HR professionals are born and not made. You need to have it in you to succeed in this line. Ultimately HR professionals are the people who give direction to the organization, by deploying the intellectual capital at their disposal
