This totally depends upon your interest as both are different fields and if you want to clear your doubt then ask yourself and choose what you like the most.

Hi Dear,In my opinion, depending on your interest in the engineering field, you should select your branch because both of this two colleges are very good having a high rank in all the colleges. Both of this colleges are government aided autonomous institute. And every autonomous institute is better than any other engineering university college. B.Tech in civil engineering from VJTI is cool because this department only got the good infrastructure among all other departments in this college. Faculty members of civil department are very good and highly educated and they published many books. Mechanical engineering from COEP is also good.

COEP and VJTI are both good colleges and among the top most in Maharashtra. But among the two COEP is the winner. COEP has been ranked one in Maharashtra after the IITs and NITs. According to MHRD rankings COEP is ranked 24th while VJTI is not even in the top hundred in the list.
Last time COEP had 83.80 percent placement for mechanical while VJTI had 50.9 percent for civil and quality of companies coming to COEP is better than at VJTI. Even average salary is better at COEP than VJTI.
Other than that COEP's racing team which generally consists of mechanical engineers has a legacy of winning BAJA SAE which is an All India Racing Competit

It is a less known fact that the course offered by VJTI is B.Tech in civil and environmental engineering, which is a value addition. Both being the core branches, are most opted for. They have a very high cutoff. Also, CoEP was established as a school for mechanical engineering. There is better placement in mechanical coep than VJTI civil. Labs and other facilities are well equipped in both colleges. All thanks to government initiatives such as TEQUIP. So it the matter of interest while choosing between them both. Provided you have the required grades.
