Hello, If you have to choose between IIT-Bombay and IIT-Kharagpur for Computer Science and Engineering, without any second thought in mind, you should opt for CSE in IIT-Bombay because CSE in IIT-Bombay is just excellent. The top 60 odd, best minds, when work together, it gives an entirely different approach towards things. Your peers are top JEE rankers. This automatically implies an excellent competition. Professors are very qualified. Most of the professors have Master’s degree and doctorate degree from top universities of the world. They are excellent in their respective fields. Excellent curriculum. Our curriculum is well designed. It is rigid enough to ensure that we learn the most important concepts in CSE. At the same time, it is flexible enough to allow us to choose our courses in fourth year. Besides, the minor program helps students to learn about other disciplines. Startup environment. Lots of students go for startups. This opens internship opportunities for IIT-Bombay students. A lot of IIT-Bombay students are working at top companies. Many of them are at leading positions in top companies of Silicon Valley. The CSE advantage. Everyone knows that the JEE rank cut-offs for IIT-B CSE are close to 50. If you compare on the basis of placements of CSE, then IITB somehow outperformance IITKH. Here is quick comparison between two. Based on academics, infrastructure, faculty, placement and alumni network IIT-Powai has minor edge over IIT-Kharagpur for B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering degree.

IIT-Bombay being among the top 3 IITs in India should be your priority unless you don't qualify for the same. IIT-Kharagpur once used to be the best among the top IITs in India but it has one disadvantage of its location being in a town because of which it suffers in attracting local companies. The advantages that one gets by getting admission in IIT-Bombay over IIT-Kharagpur are mentioned below: Due to the strategic location of IIT Bombay being in a metro, the college is able to attract a lot of companies including the core ones More number of core companies visit IIT-Bombay than in comparison to IIT-Kharagpur. If one happens to be in the top 10 among the computer science branch in IIT-Bombay, the college gives a clear and easy path for the student to pursue his higher studies from Ivy League of colleges USA from where he or she gets one step closer to get placed at their dream company. Besides this, whichever option you choose from its going to ensure you the best of the placements one can provide you in India. I hope this helps.

Course, syllabus, and curriculum followed by both the colleges are same in computer science engineering. But according to me, IIT-Bombay is a much better college than IIT Kharagpur for computer science engineering branch. There is not much of comparison between the colleges of IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur on the basis of infrastructure, facilities and faculty. Let's take a look at placement: In IIT Kharagpur, placements are well organised with a dedicated placement team. From the CSE department, over 95% of the batch gets placed either through the placements. Highest salary offered in India was about 29 LPA by Xerox Research. Average salary would be around 18Lpa, and lowest is 8 LPA. Companies which visited include Microsoft, Oracle, Visa, Xerox, Goldman Sachs, Jp Morgan and Chase, Facebook, Amazon, Adobe, IBM. Software engineer, Analyst, and researcher were some of the roles. 90% of the students got internships from the college through the placement cell. In IIT Bombay, the highest salary offered will be around 1.5 crore/annum and the lowest one will be around 8 lakhs per annum. 100% students get the internship offer where the highest stipend will be around 2.5 lakhs per month and the lowest will be 10,000 per month.
