Both the colleges are equally good, but I will vote for Thapar University, Patiala because of the standard which the University has maintained since its establishment. I will try to distinguish between both colleges with the help of certain parameters:

Thapar Institute has the best infrastructure. There is a proper environment for the development of the student. There are also many sports facilities on the campus itself like the atheletic track; sports complex. The hostel life is also good.

According to my views and experience, SRM University is the best university for the computer Science courses. In this university, you can get good placements. And, good companies come here for the placement cell. You can get good companies here for the placement. This college has good infrastructure

Although both the universities are working nicely and effortlessly and in constant competition with each other, Thapar and lovely Professional University rules in north whereas SRM and VIT are in southern part of India.
Placements:
SRM has an edge providing more placement opportunities to students

Computer Science Engineering is amongst the Best Engineering Branches. There is very good scope of doing CSE from both these Institutes in the terms of training, education and Placements.
Thapar University and SRM University are among the best Engineering Institutes in India.
