This question can be answered from several perspective. Both are good branches and offer a lot of opportunities after completing your education.
If you go for computer science engineering, you have these positives and negatives:
    1) CS fetches you more starting salary packages.

Computer Science has more scope in private sector i.e. higher packages, while mechanical engineering has greater scope in public sector (less probable due to the competitive level).

Based on current market trends computer science engineering has more scope and better placement opportunities. With all these new startups and MNCs coming to India CSE is a branch where you want to be in coming 4-5 years.
Mechanical engineering has its own perks, a career in ME allows you to build a better future for you. ME might not provide you a high paying job initially, but over the time with your experience you can grow.
Both the branches have scope and it all depends on your dedication.

People say that choose a branch as per you interest, however most engineering aspirants look forward to join any company soon after B.Tech. If you want to join some PSU, then go for mechanical because there are many such companies in this area. However, if you have plans to do a good job(be it private), then computer Science has ample opportunities for you.
