    If you want to have a long-term career in the army, then IMA is a better choice, whereas if you just want to live in the army for a few years, then OTA is better.
    1. The basic difference between IMA and OTA is that the Indian Military Academy is for permanent commissioned officers who will serve up to 30 years, whereas the Officer Training Academy, Chennai, is for short-service commissioned officers who can serve up to 14 years maximum in the army. Hence, you will have the option of leaving the army after your compulsory service of ten years as an SSC officer in OTA.

  • INA: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than July 2, 2002, and not later than July 1, 2007, can apply for INA.
  • AFA: To apply for AFA, the age of candidates should be between 20 and 24 years. They must have been born not earlier than July 2, 2002, and not later than July 1, 2006. Yes, the CDS 2 application last date to apply was extended to June 20 from June 17, 2025. A one-time extension was provided by the commission. The application correction window was opened from July 7 to July 9, 2025.
