Which one is better: Visual communication or Visual Effects/ VFX and why?

The field of visual communication focuses on delivering content and messages to an audience with visual media. In both, visual communication and VFX programs, students are taught concepts such as illustration, graphic design, photography and airbrushing. This equips students with the skills they need to succeed in the industry.

I am explaining about both the field. You can make out the difference all by yourself. A multi-disciplinary curriculum: Though viscom, strictly speaking, involves study towards being commercial, art or graphic designers, the curriculum in most colleges have a wider scope and encompass several media-related subjects. So, you can hope to study the basics of writing, journalism, photography, art appreciation, script writing, drawing, media research, folklore, computer graphics and a little bit of animation and even architecture. While you can enter journalism field also by doing an undergraduate programme in journalism and media, visual communication will give you a more rounded exposure, enabling you to get a better insight into all kinds of creative fields. It would also help you to excel in any field, be it reporting, editing or if you have the knack for it, as an illustrator. Animation and VFX are two different ways. In Animation 3D , 2D is there. New aspirants who are passionate about this topic should know exactly what it means. In the 3D field, there are departments like Modelling, Rigging, Sculptor, Animator, Efx, match move. In VFX also we have different departments like rotoscope, paint and compositing. Some special departments are there like motion graphics, matte painting, and storyboarding. Where you want to go? About which department are you passionate? In the present situation, people think animation is a single department and the effects which they have seen in movies are done by one person. So, please careful regarding choosing your area of interest. They confuse you. You should not have any confusion about your department. These days, lots of institutes are available to do this course. When you have a clear vision, you can go directly to that particular department. Otherwise, they make you choose what they are offering. This will leads you to a big disappointment when you notice that you are not on the right track. Nowadays, animation and VFX are used in every. Right from the school educational videos to a big feature film. Lots of opportunities are there. So, do not worry about the career. Just focus on what you do.

The visual communication field is focused on communicating with clients and customers through any visual means available. You will learn graphic design, illustration, animation, photography, and even the modification, or airbrushing, of photographs to better illustrate a given point. These skills are considered broad and comprehensive, and they prepare graduates to enter a number of exciting fields within the communications industry. Available career paths include graphic design, professional photography or retouching, illustration and professional animation, advertising, website design, and visual marketing departments. Whereas, VFX is a completely different field that has a more technical approachable is inclusive of rigging, rendering, rot scoping, animation etc. that include use of more advanced and high end technology and also require more experience in the industry as a whole to be able to settle well. So, the choice clearly depends on two factors: Are you looking for a quick job or willing to invest time to gain relevant experience? And secondly, Is the course of your interest more technical or broad and comprehensive?
