Which one should I prefer for an MBA: Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi or Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, IIFT and why?

The older the MBA college, the better it is in terms of experienced faculty, good alumni base, peer network etc. FMS is older to IIFT but both these colleges enjoy a very good reputation in the corporate world. Both of these institutes are among the top institutes to pursue an MBA degree and have very good placements and reputation. Only the top percentile test-takers get admission in these colleges. The only plus point of FMS is the ROI. The fees of FMS is very less compared to that of IIFT because FMS falls under Delhi University. With the placements being roughly the same, the return on the investment you do in terms of fees is more for FMS compared to IIFT. Moreover, both colleges are located in Delhi which gives their students a good location advantage of exposure to major city trends both personal and professional. In all other aspects, both these colleges are almost the same. Given a chance, I would choose FMS over IIFT because of the above-said benefit.

If you want to do MBA in finance, I would suggest you IIFT as it's goodwill itself speaks about it, seeking admission there is a dream of many and such a popularity means that the institute is worthy, rest FMS is also great and the fee is also nominal there comparatively.

It entirely depends upon in which stream an aspirant wants to pursue MBA in. As the name says, IIFT is the paradise for those dreaming to pursue a career in the International Business field. Whereas FMS is more known for its excellent ROI and general MBA program. There are several parameters one must consider while deciding which is better among these two elite B-schools. 1. ROI - FMS wins by a mile, as it offers the best in entire India. 2. Brand name - Being affiliated to the DU, FMS is a better brand as compared to IIFT. 3. Learning exposure: In their respective domains, both are very good. Though FMS edges slightly ahead as it is a much older B-school. 4, Placements - Again, FMS wins over IIFT. 5. Campus life - Both are very good, but FMS wins due to its close proximity to other colleges under DU. 6. Rankings - FMS ranks under the top ten whereas IIFT between 11-20 top B-schools. Bottom line: Choose FMS if pursuing general MBA and for its ROI. Choose IIFT if one wants to specifically pursue MBA in IB.
