Which syllabus is tough: B.Sc nautical or B.Tech marine engineering?

Hello, In B.Sc Nautical Science, you will learn everything related to Navigation of a ship and as you grow with your rank, you will learn all the commercial aspects and dealings with agents, company, charterers and local port authorities. In B.Tech Marine Engineering, since you will be in the Technical department, you will see yourself transform from the basics of the machineries to the advanced knowledge of the Engine room as you grow with your rank. Salary: For both the departments it is almost the same, with the senior deck officers (Chief Officer and Captain) earning a bit more as compared to the parallel ranks of the senior Engineering Officers (2nd Engineer and Chief Engineer). It is because of their responsibility of the total constructive loss of the ship. But again this particular factor shouldnt be your point of choosing either of the departments. Work-life balance: Life of both the departments on ship is hectic. So, no point giving a detailed information on this factor. Career growth: In terms of promotions in the shipping sector, Deck department has an upper hand when compared to the Engine department. You will see a Deck Officer getting promoted as a Captain as early as by 3133 years (in some cases). But when you will compare the same thing with the Engineering Officers, by the time you are Chief Engineer you are almost 3536 years (in most of the cases). In the end, I would just say, you shouldn’t be considering any of the factors mentioned above (I have just given you a very rough idea according to your question) since it is your career, you should be the one deciding according to your own interest. In B.Sc Nautical Science, the syllabus is different than of B.Tech. B.Tech in marine engineering is definitely tougher as it requires on to study the basics to advance level of mechanics of marine Science. All the best!

Both are similar, but B.Tech course is a bit tougher than B.Sc.
