Why do IIM students opt to become entrepreneurs as compared other B-schools?

    First of all, IIMs have a rigorous procedure for admitting students. This consists of a personal interview. In this interview they make sure that only the people who are genuinely interested in field are admitted. They look for leaders and doers and make sure they get in.
    So most of students are really brilliant and have a spark in them. Then the curriculum of IIMs is also really rigorously. This prepares students to do anything, whether working at a top management position or starting their own company.

    IIM is a place where lot of industrial interaction happens and lot of live industrial scenarios appears. The quality of education is very high standard.
    Majority of students who study in IIMs are getting very top level mentoring and they are having a clear aim for the future. Also, the brand name of IIM is helpful for an IIM student community to get angel investors for their startup.
    A lot of brainstorming sessions, debates, live case study discussion, market scenarios, etc. are carefully studied by students in IIMs. This will motivate them to take up any difficult task.

    I do not think more than 1 % students opt out of placements and become entrepreneurs from IIMs. I strongly believe though that IIMs should produce more and more entrepreneurs and wish to see that happening soon with new flexible policies introduced by the Govt. One thing which IIMs can also do is to allow the student (i.e. the entrepreneur) to come back and participate in placements in case he wants to let's say in a window of 2 or 3 years something which many foreign universities do. He may not want to but again not all start-ups take off.
