Why do people call "NIPER" the "IIT of Pharmacy"?

Hi.

It is an informal designation. People call NIPER the "IIT of Pharmacy" because the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research institutes occupy a position in pharmaceutical education somewhat similar to what the IITs occupy in engineering.

NIPER are special institutes set up by the Government of India specifically for pharmacy. Just like IITs are for engineering, NIPERs (like NIPER Hyderabad and NIPER Mohali) are dedicated only to pharmaceutical sciences.
