Why do so many aspirants fail at the UPSC CSE interview stage?

The UPSC CSE interview stage is the final stage of the IAS exam, and only a few hundred get recommended every year. There are many reasons why so many aspirants fail at this stage: 1. The selection ratio is very low due to the low number of vacancies. Only one out of every three candidates interviewed makes the final cut. 2. Lower marks in the main stage have an impact on interview marks as well. Many aspirants fail simply because their score in the Mains is very low. This stage is worth a total of 1750 marks, whereas the interview is only worth 250. 3. Some aspirants do not prepare adequately for the CSE interview, resulting in poor performance. 4. Some others keep building question banks without learning the art of analysis. This causes them to freeze while answering situational and analytical questions. 5. A few aspirants lie during interviews to make a good impression, but it backfires as the panel is very intelligent. 6. There are some other aspirants who are either overconfident or underconfident. Both of these kinds of aspirants get poor marks, as you need to be confident enough to take a stand but not too confident to argue over it. There are several other reasons, such as nervousness, not studying well about current events, or poor body language. Therefore, you must dedicate sufficient time and practice to score as high as you can in this stage.
