Why is arts and humanities considered to be the least preferred option for students?

There is no least preference towards any course but then there is high preference and propaganda towards some top courses like medical, engineering, chartered accountancy and MBA.
This drives majority and influxes the students into these branches.
As we have seen the job prospects and overall opportunities across industries have been immense for above courses and so are the fat packages being rolled out which lures majority of students.
This now creates an imbalance and supply demand ratio is disturbed.
The supply is huge for above courses because of the huge demand, which creates shortage of students into Arts streams and lesser demand.

Arts and humanities subjects are less opted by student because they feel insecure in these fields. They think in medical or engineering one can get job definitely after completing the course but they can't get job in these fields. Student are choosing medical and engineering in which there is a big hand of advertising market, many colleges for getting admissions take support of 100% placements and international selection.
Another is parent's acceptation of earning huge package after study and then students think this is possible only through engineering or medical. So earning huge salary package and parents acceptation is the cause to...more -

This is very interesting but existential question in our system of education. There is no need to disown it or ignore it. It's actually a fact. What causes it? Can it be changed? These and some more questions need urgent answers. Fundamentally, what goes in the mind of a student to select a particular subject? It simply is the prospect of earning money. Medicine and engineering were the two torch bearers in the past on this issue. But thoughtless explosion of engineering colleges and in turn fresh engineers caused a situation where in today almost 50% fresh engineering graduates do not get jobs.
