Why is BHU so famous?

<p>Banaras Hindu University is one of the eight public universities that the Indian government has named an Institution of Eminence. About 15,000 of the roughly 30,000 students of BHU, the biggest residential university in Asia, live on campus. The main campus of the university spans around1,300 acres, while the south campus covers 2,700 acres. The university is famous for its scholarships and the placements its offers to students. The highest package offered by BHU to students is INR 35 LPA. The university has an international centre specially available for international students. Such facilities are available on campus to meet the diversity of student base located in BHU.</p>

The university is also noted for its noteworthy alumni who have left a mark across the globe such as Bhupen Hazarika, Ram Manohar Lohia, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Jagjivan Ram among others.
