Why is CCNA so overrated ? Please help me understand the course. Where it works and where it fails.

I find people talking(including my college faculty) about high market value of CCNA. How exactly does it help an ECE student ? My communications faculty(Mobile, 7th Sem) says it opens up a whole new world into networking. Now this sounds interesting. I'm up for it if its challenging but rewarding.
