Why is the duration of programmes offered at MIT School of Indian Civil Services longer than the usual BA and MA?

MIT School of Indian Civil Services offers BA and MA programmes for four and three years respectively. The School has one more additional year as compared to other schools because here students get to do an internship of one year at the end of the programme. The students get additional training during this duration.
