Why is UVM called the Public Ivy?

University of Vermont is known to offer a number of full in-state scholarships to students on a merit-basis.

The most popular full scholarship offered is: Green & Gold Scholars Award that is awarded over a duration of 4-years & has a total cash prize of USD 65,000 (INR 56 L).

The scholarship is awarded to select seniors attending Vermont high schools.

Yes, GRE & GMAT scores are considered for admissions at the University of Vermont.

However, most courses do not require these scores, only a select few courses do. The university does not have a minimum GRE or GMAT score requirement & these scores are only considered as a component of a student’s application that undergoes a holistic review process.

As part of the Global Universities Rankings given by a major university ranking publication, UVM secures a rank of #1001-1200. The same source also ranks it #686 for the Sustainability category.  

Further, the institute ranks #121 as part of the National University Rankings 2025 of an unofficial source & also secures a country-wide rank #145 as per Shiksha Popularity Rankings.

The UVM is not part of the prestigious group of Ivy League universities which are considered the flagbearers of quality education in the country.
