In the normal temparature, there are two types of sulphur. One is Rombic Sulphur and the other is Mono clinic Sulphur and their molecular formula is S8.These types of Sulphur have a high molecular weight and their size are also large. So the Van-Der-Wall force is very high.So Sulphur is Solid in normal temparature. But Oxygen is Di-atomic.so it's size is not so large as Sulphur. So the Van-Der-Wall force in Oxygen atom is not so high.So it remains gas in normal temparature.

coz sulphur is initially in solid state and as it comes in contact with oxygen it burns or evaporates. This is my opinion.

Oxygen exists as a diatomic molecules whereas sulphur exists as S6. . Hence sulphur exists as solid and O2 exists as gas
