I am myself pursuing mechanical engineering in NIT, Trichy. Talking about exposure yes, you will get sufficient exposure and opportunities to explore all fields in mechanical. There are also many clubs which will help you get hands on experience and technical knowledge about the subject.

The exposure depends on college. It doesn't matter what branch you take, if you take some local college with no reputation. I'm doing my final year mechanical in NITT and I can say that things are going well for me and people in my batch.
