Will it be a good choice to pursue telecom as I am from commerce background? How is its placement?

The placement at SITM is almost 100% since its inception. Being from commerce background won't hamper your chance for placement. Infact consulting companies that offer audit related roles prefer students from commerce background.

Being from commerce background should not be a problem if you have a good understanding of technology, you will sail through comfortably. As far as placements are concerned, there are fintech and consultancy profiles too which are suitable for you if you don't want ICT domain jobs.
